Overview

Counselling Uinit is tasked with dissermination of information based on life and decision-making skills, and support to its clientele. Geared towards human development and provision of interactive relationship, it is concerned with the emotional well-being of individuals.

The Counsellor's role is to help clients gain control of their lives, anad strengthen their ability to react in a responsible, constructive manner that supports their development and well-being without being destructive to others.

Available Services

1. Conducting individual or one-to-one sessions for students and staff members when need arises. This helps people effect changes in their real world.

2. Running group sessions which enable the sharing of experiences and ideas with others. Group sessions help clients to develop and improve interpersonal skills.

3. Assisting students with problems related to adjustment to new situations.

4. Assisting students and staff to deal with problems they may encounter while they are at the University, including problems of making and maintaining relationships, as well as coping with loneliness and stress.

5. Promoting a conducive environment by indentifying the students' needs, and assisting them in leaving the institution and entering the world of work.

6. engaging in the struggle against HIV and AIDS pandemic jointly with the NUL community and the country at large.

7. Training students in peer counselling in order to respond to day-to-day problems of their peers and referring serious problems to Counsellors.

8. Establishing networks with other counselling service providers within and outside the University to ensure an efefctive referral system.
