Regulations
MAC 1.00 The department offers a three year Diploma programme in Mass Communication, meant for the following groups of people:
i) Practising journalism in government and privately – owned print and electronic media.
ii) Information Officers in various Ministries and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) involved in communication.
iii) Private candidates who are interested in making journalism a career.
MAC 2.00 Admission Requirements
Candidates with the following minimum qualifications are considered for admission:
i) A pass in four (4) subjects in Cambridge Overseas School Certificate (COSC) with no lower than 7s in either English and Sesotho, or English and alternative language.
ii) Anyone who at least in the last five (5) years, has been working in the field of journalism. This category of candidates shall take and pass an English proficiency test before consideration of admission.
iii) Other alternative qualifications recognized by the University.
MAC 3.00 The programme of study shall normally consist of the following courses:

MAC 4.00 Examinations Regulations
Semester courses will be written at the end of the semester. A student may not be granted permission to write examinations if he/she has failed to attend 75% of the class session, or has not completed all the required course work assignments of that semester.
Examinations will normally be held at the end of every semester.
MAC 5.00 Assessment
Each course shall be assessed based on the practical tests and class assignments which, put together, will constitute 40%. The remaining 60% to make a total of 100% - will be for the end of the semester examinations in each course.
MAC 5.1 In order for a student to proceed from Year I to Year II and Year III of the programme, all courses must have been passed at 50% or higher.
MCA 5.2 For any student to qualify for the award of a diploma, he/she must have passed a total of 54 credits, made up of courses in Year I Year II and Year III
MAC 5.3 Supplementation
A student may be allowed to supplement a maximum of two courses in which the final mark obtained in both the practical/continuous assessment and the final written examinations put together is at least 40%. This is provided however, that the WPA/OWM can be raised to at least 50% after supplementation if the student’s original WPA/OWM before supplementation is not already about 50% or even above.
MAC 5.4 Fail and Repeat
i) Where a student’s WPA/OWM in any year is 30% and below he/she shall fail
ii) Where a student has failed up to two courses in a year he/she must repeat the failed course and cannot proceed.
iii) Where a student has failed in more than two courses in a year he/she must repeat the year and cannot proceed.
MAC 5.5 Fail and Discontinue
A failed student who repeats a class once and fails the second time will be discontinued and may reapply after two years.
